Doncaster LEA

The Admissions Team at Doncaster LEA arrange the admission of pupils into schools in the Doncaster area. They can advise on how to make an application and inform you of the relevant closing dates. They can also let you know which is your catchment area school. The Admissions Team are based at

To help you decide on the school you would prefer to attend, you can obtain further information from our Primary and Secondary Admissions Booklets, which can be obtained from the Admissions Team, or by visiting our website, www.doncaster.gov.uk. Each school also publishes a prospectus and some of our schools have a website. The Department for Education and Skills website, www.dfes.gov.uk, also offers further advice for parents, including links to performance tables and Ofsted reports.

STARTING SCHOOL
All children are required by law to start school at the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday. However, children in Doncaster are normally admitted to school (full-time to reception class) from the September following their fourth birthday.
The closing date for admission to Reception Classes in September 2005 is 12 noon on 19 November 2004.

ADMISSION TO JUNIOR SCHOOL
At the end of the one stage of schooling, children normally transfer to the next school suitable for their age in the catchment area. Children transfer from Infant School to Junior School, if necessary, at age 7. If your child is currently attending an Infant School in Doncaster, you will automatically receive information about how to apply for a place at a Junior School. If your child currently attends a school outside Doncaster, you will need to contact the School Admissions Team at the address shown above.
The closing date for admission to Junior Schools in September 2005 is 12 noon on 19 November 2004.

ADMISSION TO SECONDARY SCHOOL
Children transfer from Primary School or Junior School to Secondary School at age 11. If your child is currently attending a school in Doncaster, you will automatically receive information about how to apply for a place at a Secondary School. If your child currently attends a school outside Doncaster, you will need to contact the Admissions Team at the address shown above.
The closing date for admission to Secondary School in September 2005 is 22 October 2004.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Schools will normally only admit children at the beginning of a school term, except in special circumstances, such as a change of home address. If you have recently moved or are planning to move, either into Doncaster, or from one part of the Borough to another, you should contact the Admissions Team at the address shown above.

CASUAL ADMISSIONS
Casual Admissions between schools are not recommended, except where absolutely necessary, as they are not judged to be in the child’s best interest. Should you be considering such a move, you should first discuss the matter with the Headteacher of your child’s existing school, who will be able to offer advice on his or her educational needs. If you then wish to transfer your child to an alternative school, your request should be made to the Admissions Team, at the address shown above.
