Every year thousands of young
people choose to pursue a career in the Army. For
many, it’s a chance
too good to miss. Pay for new entrants starts at £226
per week, which is more than other school leaving ‘earn
and learn’ schemes. Additionally, entrants
get to enjoy a unique way of life with one of the
UK’s biggest employers, comprising excellent
training and the chance to enjoy worldwide travel
opportunities.
As the cost of staying in education continues to rise,
the Army has launched a campaign to promote a new bursary
scheme that is available to school leavers.
Any talented students planning to study vocational
subjects at college can receive £1500 per year
during their course before embarking on a career
in the Army.
Staff Sergeant Martin Hoy, Wakefield’s Army Careers
Adviser, explains: “Not many people are aware
that the Army offers bursaries to 15 and 16 year
old school-leavers who want to go on to study a wide
range
of vocational subjects - from vehicle mechanic to
chef - safe in the knowledge that they are both getting
paid and have a career waiting for them at the end
of their course!”
“
There’s no end of further training opportunities
and the chance to travel all over the world. Recruits
are also encouraged to pursue any sporting interests
they may have.”
As one of the country’s biggest employers,
The Army ensures that members of its workforce are
given
every opportunity for personal growth and professional
development.
Last year 200 soldiers registered for degree courses,
11,000 soldiers registered for NVQ courses and over
4,000 soldiers registered on the Foundation Modern
Apprenticeship Schemes. Careers being pursued are as
varied as accountants, vets, postal workers, chaplains,
dentists and police officers.
