Kettlethorpe
High School
Kettlethorpe High School is located
to the South-West of the City of Wakefield and is a
large school, with nearly 1600 pupils. The school is
recognised
by OFSTED (2005) as being a ‘good school’ and
it provides a great many learning opportunities for
pupils and the wider community.
 The school has specialist status
for mathematics and computing and is recognised also
for the richness and
variety it offers across all subjects. All pupils get
to be involved in trips and visits both locally, nationally
and internationally. This year we have sports trips
travelling to Australia and Europe, Music tours to Belgium
and trips
for skiing and Modern Languages. The school is also
proud of its achievements in the Sports and Arts. It
is a wonderful
place to be and pupils are both excited and challenged
by what is offered to them.
Every effort is made to provide all our pupils regardless
of ability or background the best and most appropriate
learning curriculum. As such, we are introducing new
ways for delivering courses, for example ‘Fast
Tracking’ and ‘Super Learners’. We
are keen to see every pupil achieve to his or her full
potential. Standards in school are significantly above
national averages and continue to rise year on year.
The school prides itself on the quality of its resources
and learning environment. Investment in ICT has been
significant and we have a Community Learning Centre,
which is used by pupils and adult learners until 9pm
each weekday. Every effort is made to further develop
our ICT infrastructure and to enable learners to experience
teaching that makes positive use of ICT.
During their time at school all pupils are given individual
targets, which are reviewed in partnership with parents
and carers. We believe strongly in school/ home partnerships
and want our pupils to be both happy and successful
in school.
As a school we have excellent teaching and support
colleagues who work very hard to make the school a
successful and
enjoyable place to be. As a learning organisation we
value feedback and use such information to further
develop and improve what we do. Our Student Council,
and all
our pupils, have a significant voice and contribute
to what goes on in their school.
If you are interested in seeing what we do, please
contact the school to arrange a visit to suit you.
The school
has an open approach to visitors who can tour the learning
environment in order to judge what we offer on their
terms. In addition we have a very interesting and informative
website on www.kettlethorpehigh.co.uk
We
look forward to meeting you...
