For many, Higher Education (HE) means the traditional
route of going to university to study for a degree in
an academic subject. With the cost of going to university
rising, many students are focusing their attention on
employability. This has led to an increase in the number
of students opting to do vocational Higher Education
qualifications at a Further Education college, rather
than go to university.
Employers often place high value on advanced vocational
qualifications. Some indicate a preference for employees
with vocational Higher Education qualifications (eg Higher
National Diplomas and Foundation Degrees) since they
tend to have better technical and practical skills.
The Minister for Higher Education, Bill Rammell, who
was the guest speaker at Wakefield College’s graduation
ceremony, which is held annually at Wakefield Cathedral,
has stated the importance of vocational Higher Education
qualifications for the modern workforce.
Wakefield College’s collaborative partnerships
with Leeds Metropolitan University, University of Bradford,
University of Huddersfield and the University of Sunderland
allow Wakefield College to offer a wide range of Foundation
Degrees and Higher National Diplomas for those students
undertaking an initial HE qualification and others who
are seeking further professional development.
“We have placed much emphasis on the growth
of Foundation Degrees, because they are vocational
qualifications designed together with employers.
Here at Wakefield College, you offer individuals
the opportunity to make a lasting and positive change
to their lives. Studying at a Higher Education level
is one of the best investments anyone can make for
their future.”

achieved a Higher Education qualification in a number
of areas,
including Interactive Media, Dance, ICT, Education,

employment or further studies at universities across
the country. |
