Degree or
not Degree - Wakefield College
Deciding which type of Higher Education
qualification to study can be confusing. Many people think
only of full university degrees, but the new Foundation
Degrees and the established Higher National Diplomas (HNDs)
offer students the opportunity to study a vocationally
relevant Higher Education course that employers respect.
Two experienced course leaders from Wakefield College
make the case for the qualifications they teach.
“Foundation
Degrees mark the first major change in Higher Education
in twenty years. They spotlight the importance of marrying
academic skills to those of the workplace. They target
the skills gap that the Government has identified at
technician level by featuring work-based learning and
personal development modules. If you are interested in
a work-related business qualification that involves going
out on work placement, this is the route for you.”

“HND Interactive
Media is a vocationally focused course. It’s specifically
designed to enable students to enter the creative industries
without the need to top-up to a full degree. Creative,
technical and employability skills are fostered in a
practical workshop environment, and the level of student
support far outweighs that available on similar degree-level
courses. It’s affordable too! We’ve got excellent
links with local employers, and the bottom line is that
our graduates get jobs.”
