The Art House and Partake
A new building
and a new arts organisation for Wakefield
The building of the new Art House on land between Drury
Lane and Westgate in the centre of Wakefield will bring
new opportunities for both working and learning in the
visual arts.
The building will house artists’ studios, with
technicians on hand to support disabled artists – or
anyone who needs help. Short-stay accommodation will
be available for artists who wish to stay at The Art
House. The building will be open to the wider community
in Wakefield with a Community Studio equipped with print-making
and general art facilities.
Three high-quality meeting rooms will be available for businesses or groups to
use for meetings or conferences. The building will have many features which make
it particularly accessible to disabled users, including two evacuation-standard
lifts and a quiet room, for people who need to rest during the day.
Partake – a newly-formed organisation dedicated to bringing people together
through the visual arts – will bring artists in residence from the UK and
abroad to work at The Art House. This new organisation will also design and deliver
arts projects and will organise classes and workshops for the wider public in
the new Community Studio and at other venues throughout the district. |
